    After a heartbreaking loss in another European Championship final against Spain on Sunday, Southgate decided to resign from his post after serving his country for eight years. The manager will go down in history as one of the most successful head coaches to have managed the Three Lions, having guided them to the semi-finals of three major tournaments and reaching back-to-back Euros finals.

    As the 53-year-old decided to end his journey with the England national team, captain Harry Kane took to social media to pen an emotional note dedicated to his manager where he thanked him for his immense contribution to the Three Lions.

    On Instagram, Kane shared a few photographs of himself with Southgate and wrote in the caption: "Boss. Thank you for everything you have done for me and our country! You have been one of England’s greatest-ever managers and it has been a pleasure to have served as your captain throughout. You helped our nation connect and believe in our team again. There have been so many highlights and we’ve made memories together that will last forever! Good luck with your next chapter and I’m sure we’ll see each other around. Thanks, Boss!"

    The Football Association is expected to name Southgate's replacement in the next few months. Several top managers have been linked with the job, however, Newcastle United's Eddie Howe is being considered the favourite to take the role.
