According to , Sheffield Wednesday could be slapped with a 15-point deduction for failing to clear the salaries of some of their squad members. The Owls have defaulted on salary payments in five out of the last seven months. They are likely to face severe sanctions from the EFL for breaking financial and the case will be referred to an independent disciplinary commission.

Three points for each failed payment
The 15-point deduction has been calculated on the basis of three points being deducted for failing to pay in each of the five months. Although the decision will be made on past examples of how clubs have been punished due to similar offences. In 2023, Reading were docked one point for failing to clear salaries, while in the 2023-24 campaign, Wigan Athletic faced an eight-point penalty.

Owner Dejphon Chansiri has already cleared the payments of junior players and admin staff, while a handful of first-team stars are yet to receive full payments.
