Hoffenheim have confirmed that Tottenham keeper Heurelho Gomes has broken his hand and the loanee will not play again this season.
The 32-year-old has impressed in the Bundesliga since joining Hoffenheim on a six-month deal in January but he will not play again this season after he broke his hand during a collision with Andreas Lambertz in Friday’s 3-0 win over Dusseldorf.
Spurs have said he can stay where he is during his rehabilitation from surgery, he had four pins inserted in his index finger, and a decision will be made on his future in the summer, although a permanent switch away from White Hart Lane looks to be on the cards.
A statement from Hoffenheim said: “Heurelho Gomes will play no more this season for TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.
“The goalkeeper withdrew from the Bundesliga match against Fortuna Dusseldorf on Friday night after suffering a fraction of the left metacarpal bone which needs surgery. The Brazilian will be out for eight weeks.”
Gomes took to Twitter to thank his fans for their support.
